Lenny loves… Sri Lanka!

Hi Lobster fans, its Lenny again.

I’ve wanted to tell you all what I’ve been up to for a long time now but I have been travelling so much recently that I just haven’t had a chance!

A few weeks ago I was in Kalutara on the west coast of Sri Lanka – a truly amazing place. I stayed at the Avani Kalutara Resort and tucked in to some of the best spicy food (even on all inclusive) I have ever tasted. From fish soups to lentil and spinach dahls, I have been a very lucky lobster!

Egg Hoppers!

Last night I saw and ate something I haven’t seen before. Known as an ‘Egg Hopper’ – it was like a savoury pancake shaped into a bowl with an egg in the middle.

On one of the days I took the coastal train down to Galle. It cost 70 rupees, which I took to be between 50 and 70 pence for a 1¼ hour journey. What a humbling journey it was; I got talking to a local man on the train and he said that the tsunami hit this train (he then looked at his watch), at this time, and looking out over the sea from the train I could imagine the wave coming towards me and wondered how I would cope. As you can see, I took a picture of the train from my hotel…

Tsunami train

While in Galle I took a look round the Dutch fort, saw the cricket ground and a few Buddist temples before making my way back to Kalutara, but instead of using the train I chose a Tuck Tuck…

AAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh was basically all that came out of my mouth for the whole 3 hour journey. It was absolutely crazy, I nearly died aTuck Tuck dozen times going head on with lorries, cars, other tuck tucks and bikes (with full families on them) and it cost me 2,000 rupees for the near-death pleasure!

I’m just about to get on another plane, so I’ll update you with more from Sri Lanka soon…
